Vice President Harris helped shape “Bidenomics,” White House says

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters during a White House press conference on Wednesday that Vice President Kamala Harris helped develop President Joe Biden’s economic strategy, called “Bidenomics.”

The president coined the term to describe his strategy of rebuilding the economy “from the middle out and from the bottom up, not the top down.” His plan is supposedly the opposite of trickle-down theory, a Reagan-era policy that argued that tax breaks for big corporations would lead to better conditions for all Americans.

Axios reported on Wednesday that Harris is trying to distance herself from the plan because it is unpopular with voters.

“Harris won’t say it so bluntly in public, but her advisers are saying it in private: She wants to break with Biden on the issues where he is unpopular,” the outlet wrote. “First: rising prices. This is part of a tightly choreographed effort to define – in some cases redefine – herself as a different kind of Democrat.”

When asked about the validity of this claim, Jean-Pierre said the plan was the product of both politicians, not just President Biden.

“Do you realize this is the Biden-Harris administration?” she asked. “One thing I know for sure is that this president and this vice president are fighting very hard to make the middle class stronger.”

She further claimed that Republicans were fighting to enforce “MAGA-nomics,” which would lead to “soaring inflation” and “cutting Social Security.”

“Both the president and the vice president have been working on the Biden economy,” added Jean-Pierre.

Republicans criticized Harris’ campaign this week for being unclear about the vice president’s policy proposals. In particular, the campaign’s website lacks information about Harris’s platform.

In contrast, former President Donald Trump’s campaign website contains 20 bullet points and a PDF document outlining his stance on key issues.
