How to get free transportation to the beach during Miami Spice

How to get free transportation to the beach during Miami Spice

In case you needed another excuse to eat out in Miami this summer, the folks who put on our legendary Restaurant Months every year just announced free transportation service for the rest of Miami Spice.

Now through September 30, guests who want to enjoy discounted, pre-priced menus at some of Miami’s best restaurants can order eco-friendly rides on demand using the ride-sharing app Freebee.

The offer is only valid within Freebee’s new service area in South Beach: south of 17th Street, between Alton Road and Ocean Drive. But since this area has the highest concentration of participating Miami Spice restaurants in the city, you’ll want to read on to learn more about how it works.

How to get a free ride during Miami Spice

Through a partnership with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) and the City of Miami Beach, Freebee will operate its new “South Beach – Miami Spice” service Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

To take advantage of the offer, guests must download the Freebee app to their phone. Miami Spice service is only available within the South Beach zone, meaning rides must start and end in the designated area (shown in the app once you sign up). You can ride door-to-door from homes, apartment buildings, hotels and city garages to 60 Miami Spice restaurants in South Beach.

But there are also perks for people who want to drive to South Beach from outside the zone. Instead of using valet parking (expensive) or trying to park on the street near the restaurant (often impossible), guests can park in one of five city-owned garages in the area (usually $2 an hour) and flag down a freebee for the last leg of the trip. These garages include 13 Street and Collins Avenue, 7 Street and Collins Avenue, 15 Street and Washington Avenue, 12 Street and Drexel Avenue, and 17 Street and Convention Center Drive.

Because it’s a new service, it’s hard to predict how long it will take for your freebee to arrive, and there’s no way to book a ride in advance. But because it’s an on-demand service, using a freebee to get around South Beach during Miami Spice months is a pretty good deal—especially if you’re in the mood for restaurant and bar hopping. (There’s no cap on the number of free rides you can take.)

Once you’ve created your account and set your pickup location, you can search for “Deals” or “Destinations” in the “South Beach – Miami Spice” service area to find the participating restaurant of your choice. You can also use the service for a free return ride to your home, hotel, parking garage or other drop-off location within the zone.

Most vehicles in Freebee’s 100% electric fleet can accommodate up to five people. If you want to request a ride for more than five passengers, you will need to create two separate ride requests for two separate vehicles and from two separate accounts. As you request your ride, you will see an area on the Confirm Ride screen where you can select the number of passengers.
