Newman 4-H brings home awards from Stanislaus County Fair

The Newman 4-H Club had a fantastic two weeks at the Stanislaus County Fair.

At the Registered Jersey Show, Trace Bert and his 4-year-old dairy cows placed 1st and 2nd and were named Reserve Champion 4-year-olds. Bert placed 4th in the Winter Calf class and was named Reserve Champion Jersey Replacement Heifer. He also placed 5th in Intermediate Dairy Showmanship.

Avery Bert took first place with her 3-year-old dairy cow and fall calf and was awarded the Champion Jersey 3-Year-Old. The daughter dam took second place. Bert exhibited and sold a Holstein heifer.

At the Grade Dairy Show, where Jersey cattle were exhibited, Marlayna Barcellos took 3rd place with her spring calf and 4th place with her fall calf. Hunter Barcellos took 3rd place with his fall calf and 6th place with his winter calf.

Olivia Casey exhibited two Old English Game Hens and took 1st and 3rd place. Her 1st place hen was awarded Best Bantam and Reserve Game Bird. Casey took 6th place in the Advanced Poultry Showmanship category.

In the guinea pig competition, Olivia Casey took 1st place with her oldest black American boar. The boar was named best oldest of its breed, best black boar of its breed, and best show guinea pig. Casey took 1st place in the Advanced Cavy Showmanship category.

In the rabbit breeding competition, Emily Drumonde took 2nd place with her Sr. Himalayan Black Buck. Drumonde took 5th place in the Intermediate Rabbit Showmanship category. Olivia Casey took 1st place with her Himalayan Black Buck and was awarded Best Breed Match; her black goats took 2nd and 3rd places. Casey’s Blue Himalayan Senior Buck took 1st place and was awarded Best Breed Match; Casey’s blue goats took 1st and 2nd places.

In the Lilac division, Olivia Casey and her older bucks took 1st and 2nd place and were awarded Best of Breed; Casey’s older goats took 1st and 2nd place and her younger goat took 1st place and was awarded Best of Breed. Casey took 3rd place in the Advanced Rabbit Showmanship category.

Emily Drumonde and Olivia Casey each took 1st place in their divisions in the Educational Display competition.

Folkart member Emily Drumonde took first place in the arts and crafts competition

1-1st, Olivia Casey placed 3-1st and 2-2nd. In the arts and crafts competition, Bryan Berbereia received 1st and 2-2nd place awards; Raylen Barcellos, Hunter Barcellos, Marlayna Barcellos and Evan Martins each received 1st-1st place awards.

Brian Casey and Max Barcellos exhibited 4 Primary Crafts, while McKinley Silveira submitted 3.

In the photography category, Olivia Casey took 1st place nine times, 2nd place three times, and 3rd place three times; Emily Drumonde took 1st place and 3rd place three times; Addie Martins took 1st place and 3rd place three times; Noah Martins took 1st and 1st place and Evan Martins took 1st and 3rd place.

Max Barcellos and McKinley Silveira each participated in Primary Photography with two entries.

Bella Berbereia took 1st place in the advanced food competition and Bryan Berbereia took 2nd place in the intermediate category.

In the stand project competitions, archery members Andres Gutierrez, Hunter Barcellos, Evan Martins, Raylen Barcellos, Noah Martins, Bryan Berbereia and Marlayna Barcellos presented their final target and each took 3rd place.

Newman 4-H members are preparing for the 2024-2025 program year. Enrollment and re-enrollment begins August 1.
