Best Diablo 4 Bone Spear Necromancer build in Season 5

Best Diablo 4 Bone Spear Necromancer build in Season 5

The Necromancer is at the forefront of the metafight in Diablo 4 Season 5, and the Bone Spear build remains the best setup. Here’s how to put the build together for leveling and endgame, and whether we’d recommend it for PvP play.

The Bone Spear Necro build sees the Necromancer use this classic move as their primary offensive weapon while utilizing other skills and equipment that increase their power. This Necromancer build is considered A-tier in the current meta, making it a great choice for anyone who likes the Priests of Rathma.

From there, we’ll explain in detail how to optimize the build for the endgame and give you the best skills, items, aspects, and glyphs to target on your journey. For the PvP players out there, we’ll also let you know whether we think the Bone Spear Necro is effective this season.

Necromancer in the endgame

The Bone Spear Necromancer is all about using his deadliest bone magic.

Best Bone Spear leveling build in Diablo 4 Season 5

As you level up while playing through the campaign or the new Season 5 content, make sure to select your skills in the following order:

These skills will help you build the ideal Bone Spear. Of course, you will need to have unlocked Renown Points to use the extra ten, so if you find it more convenient, Level Evulsion, Compound Fracture, and Serration before the minion mastery abilities.

The above skill selection will help you focus your abilities on Bone Spear, making it your strongest ability while also reducing its cooldown. Of course, you can resort to Harvest and Decompose if you run out of Essence, but this becomes less and less likely as you level up.

Best Book of the Dead Setup for Leveling

If you want to use the unique abilities of the Necromancer’s Book of the Dead for a Bone Spear build, we recommend choosing the following options:

  • Skeleton Warrior – Skirmisher
  • Skeleton Mage – Cold
  • Golems – iron

This Book of the Dead setup is the best for this build so that your Skirmisher Skeleton Warrior Focus on close combat while your Magicians support them from a distance with cold magic. This will slow down enemies while your skeletons, golems, and yourself attack them while they are vulnerable.

We have selected the Iron Golem for this Book of the Dead setup, as it Allow your golem, Protect your mages and yourself from mobs and elites as you fire volleys into battle.

Your minions are effective allies when leveling, but once you reach the endgame, you’ll soon no longer need them and be able to do more damage by sacrificing them – at least with this build.

Bone Spear

Bone Spear is learned early in the leveling process.

Best leveling rotation

  • Summon Servants – If not already active
  • Iron Maiden
  • Corpse tendrils
  • Blood Mist
  • Bonestorm
  • Bone Spear – Main Skill
  • Harvest – Close combat

For this build you will probably have already got your minions with you, so your first attack should be to hit a mob with Iron Maiden so that they are likely to take more damage when the fight starts.

Next, cast corpse tendrils to stun enemies and increase the chance of producing additional corpses to replenish your subordinate army. From here you can hit them with your main attacks by Blood mist that causes devastating damage from a distance as soon as your subordinates attack the mob.

Now you can use your two most effective skills, Bonestorm And Bone Spear. Once you have cast Bone Storm, fire a volley of bone spears into the fray. You can Harvest And Decompose if the need exists.

By now, Corpse Tendrils’ effects have worn off, so attack them with another round, maximizing your corpse generation, stunning the survivors, and even refilling their poison levels.

Of course, it’s best to use the rotation that works best for you, but the method described above is logical and proven for combining skills into a powerful attack set.

Best Legendary Aspects

While legendary aspects become more useful in the endgame version of the Bone Spear build, there are some you can hunt down as you progress to level 50 or as you play through the story. Here’s where you can find them:

Best Bone Spear endgame build in Diablo 4 Season 5

Once you have reached the endgame in Season 5 by completing the story, reaching level 50, and unlocking the Paragon Board, you can Respec on the endgame version of the Bone Spear Necro Build. This is very similar to the leveling build, but there are some important differences in how points are awarded, which we’ll cover below.

First you need to Switch your active and passive skills. Since you already have 50 skill points and all unlocked reputation points, you can assign them to the following active and passive skills:

Bone Spear

Bone Spear is a fast attack and deals great damage.

You should choose the following passive skills:

This build still focuses primarily on Bone Spear as its primary skill, but now no longer uses minions and instead doubles down on support spells and attacks.

We also have Curses exchanged and Iron Maiden replaced by DecrepifyThis will slow down enemies and give you time to pepper them with attacks that trap them in a killbox.

Best Endgame Setup for Book of the Dead

The main difference between the Book of Dead skills in the endgame is that you sacrifice all your minions to really buff yourself. This build barely needs them, so take the sacrifice buff to make your bone spear damage even deadlier.

  • Skeleton Warrior – Sacrifice
  • Skeleton Mage – Sacrifice
  • Golems – Sacrifice

If you prefer to use servants, you can of course do so, but you must be aware that you will have less power as a single necromancer.

Best endgame rotation

For endgame, use the following skill rotation when approaching mobs in combat:

  • Decreptify
  • Blood Mist
  • Corpse tendrils
  • Bonestorm
  • Bone Spear
  • Corpse explosion

The rotation of attacks in the endgame first involves the casting Decreptify Slow down enemiesThen Hit a mob with Blood Mist, Corpse Vines and then Bone StormThis will probably weaken many of them, so hit them with volleys of Bone Spear.

Now cast Corpse explosion to turn your enemies’ corpses into bombs that kill even more of them. Repeat this simple rotation and feel free to skip levels against smaller mobs. Blood Mist, for example, works whenever you want.

Keep in mind that while you have access to Reap and Decompose, this is mainly to ensure that other skill chains remain intact as you level up – you have no room for them as active skills if you’re already using six others.

Bone Spear

Bone Spear should not be confused with Bone Spirit.

Best Legendary Aspects

Now that you’ve reached the endgame, you have access to many more legendary aspects that you can use to improve your build and add special powers to enhance your main skills. Some are the same as in the leveling build, but now there are even more. Here’s where and how to find them:

Remember that you can also remove these aspects from their original item and apply them to an item of your choice.

Paragon Board

Once you reach level 50, you will no longer receive skill points, but will instead receive Paragon Points. This leveling system works very differently and involves you selecting updates from different boards with different themes and buffs.

Every path is different, but the good news is that by targeting different glyphs as you move around the Paragon board, you can start to improve your Bone Spear Necro in the ways that matter most to the build.

Below you can see which glyphs you should focus on first.

Best Glyphs

Level 15

  • Grave Guardian
  • Physically
  • control
  • Being
  • Victim
  • exploit
  • strengthen

Level 21

  • Being
  • control
  • exploit
  • Strengthen
  • Physically
  • Victim
  • Grave Guardian

Once you reach Paragon level 15, work your way up to the glyphs mentioned above. You’ll also unlock more on the Paragon board as you earn more points, but choosing these specific glyphs in this order will keep you on the best possible path for the Necro Bone Spear build.

Bone Spear

No minions are required for the endgame build.

Best Bone Spear Endgame Item

It will take some time to track down this exact set, but once you do, this is your endgame gear. Of course, it’s up to you what gear you equip, and you can mix it up, but this build will give you a distinct advantage.

Alternative to the Necromancer Bone Spear build for PvP

The good news about using the Necromancer Bone Spear build for PvP is that it’s the exact same build we outlined above in our endgame section. The build is rated A-tier for PvP this season, so while it’s not at the top, it’s still deadly and a great choice for taking out other players.
