ALPENA – The rides at the Alpena County Fair opened at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and families lined up to get tickets to the fun.

“My grandson is here from Wisconsin and he’s been waiting all day for them to open,” said Karen of Alpena.

Her grandson Wesley was all smiles on one of the children’s rides. He immediately jumped off and was ready to conquer the next ride as quickly as possible.

Pony riding was a fun experience for some children. Aubree Storms, 6, rode a pony named Toffee and her little brother Bo Storms, 3, rode Bazooka.

When Aubree finished riding Toffee, she couldn’t stop smiling and gave the ride two thumbs up. She said the best part was that she got to ride the pony all by herself.
