Watch the HBCU Gameday crew discuss the latest news from FAMU as the university is on the verge of a leadership shakeup.

HBCU Gameday’s Vaughn Wilson broke the news after receiving a letter from Florida A&M University (FAMU) Interim President Dr. Timothy Beard demanding the immediate resignation of members of FAMU’s leadership team by the end of Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

Florida A&M University’s leadership team includes the Chief Operating Officer, Provost, General Counsel, Director of Athletics, Chief of Staff, Director of Communications, and several other key cabinet positions.

Sources at HBCU Gameday later found out that Florida A&M University Vice President and Athletic Director Tiffani-Dawn Sykes was no longer working at the university, but noted that she had not resigned and that Michael Smith was reportedly at the helm of FAMU athletics.

FAMU is scheduled to begin its fall semester on August 26th and will play its Week Zero football game in the MEAC-SWAC Challenge against Norfolk State next week in Atlanta.

Vaughn Wilson reported, “The letter was a form letter with a response form attached, apparently to speed up response time,” and, “While it is not unusual for interim presidents to make changes, a major change in senior leadership just days before the start of the fall semester is an odd time when important decisions for a successful school year are being made based on enrollment and other factors.”
