Toddlers survive Texas highway crash and are thrown from car; video shows them running on road in diapers

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Two young children who were thrown from a car in a serious crash on the I-10 East Freeway are still in the hospital, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sunday, the children, aged 1 and 4, were travelling in a Jeep driven by their father when it collided with another vehicle. The impact caused the Jeep to overturn and the children were thrown into the air.

A video of the aftermath shows the two children, dressed only in diapers, sitting in the middle of the highway while their father and another man run towards them.

The whole thing happened as Victor Cordova was driving home. At first he feared the worst.

“I thought they actually died. I thought they were dead,” he told KTRK-TV in Houston.

He was relieved to see the children moving. Incredibly, they had not been hit by other vehicles.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing, but the 25-year-old father could face criminal charges for failing to restrain his children, so Cordova, who is a father himself, wanted to show other parents the video he recorded.

“Parents, everyone else needs to be careful, even if it’s just a short distance, so that they can properly protect their children,” Cordova said.
