Cape Coral police arrested a man after allegedly finding 81.7 grams of fentanyl in his car during a traffic stop.

Javario Anton Barron, 54, of Punta Gorda, was stopped around 9:40 p.m. on August 12 while driving a white Audi near the 300 block of Cape Coral Parkway E in Cape Coral.

According to the Cape Police, the traffic check was carried out due to a “Device violation.” The officer said he “I smelled the strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the car and then noticed smoke in the vehicle and a burnt blunt in the cup holder.”

Barron and his passengers were asked to leave the vehicle. Together with other officers who were on site at the time, they searched the car and allegedly found a “Tour bus belt containing $400 in cash in $20 bills, (as well as) several vials of prescription medication…with a name/label that did not belong to anyone in the vehicle.”

In addition, a search of the glove compartment revealed a “orange medicine bottle without label” which allegedly “contained about 86 white, oval tablets” with markings that usually indicate ibuprofen.

The report further stated that “The pills did not correspond to typical pharmaceutical labeling and had a powder-like composition.” Police say that in a field test, the pills “presumptively tested positive for the presence of fentanyl,” with a total weight of 81.7 grams.

Barron was arrested and charged with trafficking 4 grams or more of fentanyl and possession and/or use of narcotics.
