A Tell City man was arrested after 6 pounds of marijuana was found in a vehicle during a stop on U.S. 60 East on Tuesday, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. A subsequent search turned up additional “large quantities” of marijuana and mushrooms, officials said.

According to a press release, investigators from the DCSO, Kentucky State Police, Perry County Sheriff’s Office and Tell City Police Department conducted a joint investigation in Daviess County and Tell City following a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon.

At around 1 p.m., DCSO patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on US 60 East near the KY 231 Natcher Bridge as part of a drug enforcement operation, the press release states.

During the stop, a DCSO sniffer dog alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, approximately 6 pounds of marijuana was located, including a box of other THC products such as vape cartridges and a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms,” the DCSO said.

As a result of that discovery, a search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s home in Tell City, where Indiana State Law Enforcement investigators discovered “additional large quantities of marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms and U.S. currency,” officials said.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are expected.

Colin Johns, 38, was arrested and taken to the Daviess County Detention Center. He is currently on probation in Indiana and was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of his arrest, according to DCSO. He faces multiple charges in Kentucky and Indiana following this operation.

According to DCSO, he was accused of the following, among others:

  • Trafficking in marijuana over 5 pounds – first offense
  • Trafficking in controlled substances, 2and Graduation, 1st attack
  • Failure to present the insurance card
  • Expired license plate
