“The Great Outdoors” was a regular feature in the Sunday edition of the Gannett newspaper.
Marsi received an email late last month informing him that his column would no longer appear in the Press & Sun-Bulletin. Two other locally written columns were also eliminated as part of a cost-cutting measure at the paper.
Although the decision to stop the column came suddenly, Marsi admitted: “Given the state of the local newspapers, I had been waiting quite a long time for the termination, so it was not a complete shock.”
Speech at WNBF Radio Binghamton now In an interview with the show on Tuesday, Marsi said, “I’d like to think there’s something positive about what happened.” He said, “The idea that Gannett paid me for 44 years to write a weekly column” somehow makes it difficult to get too upset about the state of affairs, “and I move on.”
Marsi hasn’t missed a thing since the column disappeared from the Sunday paper. He has put out a weekly report with various special features that are distributed via email. He said anyone interested in the regular updates can email him at [email protected].
