JXN Water begins shutting off water for customers without accounts

JACKSON, Mississippi (WLBT) – Residents who receive water without an account could soon have their water service shut off.

JXN Water announced on Tuesday that it had begun disconnecting water meters for homes and businesses without an active account.

“Earlier this year, JXN Water discovered thousands of addresses with new water meters that were using water without a corresponding account, resulting in unbilled water usage,” the statement said. “These properties, which had water usage without an account for several years, are now in the settlement process.”

The statement further said that letters were sent to the addresses informing the owners that they must contact JXN Water to resolve the matter or their water supply would be withdrawn without notice.

The efforts appear to be bearing fruit. Since Tuesday, 125 customers who were disconnected from water services have opened accounts. Once the accounts are set up, water services will be restored.

Anyone seeking further information is asked to call JXN Water at (601) 500-5200. JXN Water offices are not open to the public and immediate service cannot be guaranteed by an on-site visit.
