Wy named to US U20 World Cup squad

On August 8, junior goalkeeper Teagan Wy has been named to the U.S. Women’s U20 squad for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. She will play with the Stars and Stripes in Bogota, Colombia, from August 31 to September 22. The latest step in Wys’ international career comes after a successful national team training camp in February, when the U.S. earned two 1-0 wins over Colombia. The Golden Bears goalkeeper led the way from start to finish in the second game, making three saves to earn a clean sheet.

Wy helped the United States qualify for this year’s World Cup as a member of the 2023 CONCACAF Women’s U20 Championship team that finished second in April 2023. This will be her second World Cup experience, as she served as a reserve player on the U20 team starting in 2022.

Wy receives ACC preseason awards

Just hours after being named to the World Cup squad, Wy became the first Bear to be named to the Preseason All-ACC Team. She was the only goalie selected to the team, and Cal was one of only seven teams in the 17-school conference represented. Last year as a sophomore, Wy started all 19 games and made 86 saves, which was the second-most in both program history and among Pac-12 goalies this season. Her six shutouts and .796 save percentage earned her Third-Team All-Pac-12 honors.

Back in camp

This season, Cal returns 25 Bears from the 2023 roster, including eight starters. Three transfers from prominent programs and four true freshmen join the program. Check out Back in camp: women’s football for more detailed information.

On the individual side, Cal had three All-Pac-12 selections with Wy and forwards Lema and My name is Fontana all were named to the third team. Wy finished the season second in the conference with 86 total saves and ranked fourth in both save percentage (.796) and saves per game (4.53).
